215E conversion to TR

Does anyone know if it is possible to convert a TR series 215E out drive to a straight TR outdrive? I have heard that the housings are the same and one can change the gears in the upper case of the 215E to accomodate and change to the TR direct drive to the MercTrans2ntransmission. If so please provide info to a link explaining how.
