control box knob identification

Hello all,

I recently purchase a pontoon with a Johnson 9.9 (2001). The side mount control box looks like every other one I've seen, but this one has a knob located under the key. I assume it's some kind fine tuning adjustment for the outboard, but I'm not sure. I've messed around with it, and now I'm not a 100% sure where it started, and the outboard only runs at high choke, and then dies at idle when you take the choke down. Considering it ran well before I messed with the knob, I'm hoping this is my problem.

Can someone confirm this is an idle adjustment knob? Also, what's the procedure for zeroing it out and tuning it from there?

Thanks for any help!

Re: control box knob identification

I am pretty sure you are referring to the friction adjustment knob. It changes how easy/hard it is to move the main handle...

Could you post a pic of the box ?? With the way boats are rigged today, you don't know what you have.
