!979 55hp evinrude...Stalls when put in gear

I have a 16ft Star craft with a 1979 55hp Evinrude outboard. Good comp, had carbs and jets serviced, new impeller, The engine starts Rite up. But stalls as I put it in gear, so adjusted throttle up, still alot of hesitation to higher RPMs. When I get the motor finally to plane it runs smooth as can be, runs very strong. Could it be a crank gasket leak, I heard that would screwup at lower Rs. I would appreciate any input on my problem, Thanks Fishingjim66

If your compression and spark are good, I'd say you still have some carb probs.

Thanks for the responce.. My mechanic checked the carbs, Im going to take it in again for the third time to see if he can pinpoint the problem,He also put a new fuel pump on and new lines. Thanks again Boobie
