Quick question: What oil/gas mixture should I use? 50:1? 24:1? Seen both on forums. Also, Will gasoline with 10% Ethenol work?

Officially, OMC went to 50/1 in '64. I've read that 10hp and up had roller bearings from about '61+, and you can run 50/1 in those. I'm not sure about that, so I run 24/1 in anything pre-'64. Someone w/more insight to this will likely chime in.

Ethanol doesn't store worth a damn, so don't leave any in your carb/tank/hoses for storage. It also tends to soften/flake off the insides of original fuel lines over time to gum up your carb. If you have to run ethanol, it'd be a good idea to change out fuel lines under cowling, and install an omc carb kit (includes float). That will protect your motor's soft fuel system parts from degradation by ethanol.. but you still should empty your carb/lines/tank for any extended storage.

Good luck!

JB, You might PM Joe Reeves. He has direct OMC factory experience on that motor

From what I have seen in the part's break-down for this engine, the crank mains, and wrist pins had rollers. The big ends of the rods did not. BRP says 24:1 for this one.
