The driveshafts are probbly not the same as is the shift linkage. It can be done but several things will need to be changed and without proper tools and gauges would not last very long. The 72 LU setup was changed in 77 and again in 84. your best bet is to get a driveshaft that is made for the motor being repaired. Check out the stickys on here for salavage yards that might have a shaft you need. JMO
