merc I/O 3L Rear Seal Leak

We are having a recurring problem with a rear seal leak. Before we tear this apart again, do you have any tips or suggestions for correcting this problem? We thought we had it licked as it did not leak when testing but, after an evening on the boat last night the leak is bigger than last time. :( <br /><br />oops it is an '83

sure its a rear seal and not drive oil leaking past the gimbal bearing?

Welcome to iboats :) <br />You don't say what year.....<br />Anyway, did you look at the mating surfaces for signs of any damage?<br />Hard to say if you damaged the seal in any way....<br />I'm sure you will get some better feedback, so stick around!

Do you mean the rear crankshaft seal on the engine or something else?
