Experts, I need ya on this one.
1996 Yamaha 85 HP with an overheat issue:
So far, I've changed the impeller, poppet valve, removed the thermostat and cleaned corrosion under the two water jacket covers. This is a salt water engine, and when we originally performed the work, we found bits of an old impeller. Owner says he has always changed the impeller himself, and that he has never burned an impeller up. Owners say a lot of things (or they omit things), so who knows. We are disassembling everything now in hopes of fixing the issue.
Here's the weird part: when the engine is running (buzzer going off and engine getting hotter to the touch, the **** hose is not pumping that much water, and the water that is coming out is cool. When the engine shuts down and the block drains, the water coming out the indicator hose is hot as hell. All I can think is more blockage from the impeller that we found. Thoughts?
