My first boat, I have tons of questions, am machenicaly inclined but lack troubleshooting skills. Ok so here goes. After replacing a starter on a1992 johnson 50hp, I did some minor tune up cleaned the fuel filter; checked spark plugs.my next step was to check the water flow, I put on a set of muff and ran the engine, after about ten minutes, I herd a buzz coming from the shift box, after searching post found out it was a overheat alarm. I had a stream of 5-6" from my weep hole and it was never hotter than luke warm, the moter never cut off. My questioni is; is this a bad sensor, is theer a way to test it, ie, can I ground it off the block or something like the such. Or is the over heat problem somewhere else. I also have some other questions regarding reverse.bur that is for another post, one problem at a time.

When was the last time the water pump replaced ?? You may also want to put it in a big barrel or take it to the lake and see if you have the same problem.
