Head Covers, Gasket Sealent or Not?

Ready to install head covers on '78 Johnson, 150 hp rebuild. Should I use gasket sealent or not? The gaskets are as wide as the cover but actually contact the two surfaces very little. I just dont see what good it would do to spread the sealent all over the gasket. Maybe just on the edges? Let me know, Thanks.

If the gaskets say "use no sealer" then don't. If not put OMC Gasket Sealing Compond or Permatex # 3 on them.
