I have just purchased a Ski Boat with a 200 HP Mariner the problem is the Rev Counter fluctuates while holding the accelerator constant.
Hope someone can help.
Bob.

not at all educated on this subject here but is this first of all on a flat surface or a wavy surface? Secondly it may have a rev limiter that is trying to compensate between higher and a moderate rpm. Do you hear fluctuation in the engine RPMs as the indicator is showing? This may be caused by a lose wire somewhere.

Check and clean the connections. There may be a switch on the back; check the setting and operate the switch a few times to clean the contacts.

Fluctuating by how much and at what speeds? Did you stick your head under the helm and at least check for loose connections on the tach? There is also a calibration dial on the back. Note its current setting. Then GENTLY rotate it back and forth a few times to burnish the contacts. Then reset it to the original setting.

Check all wiring for any loose connections - particularly the grey wire from the tachometer. Check the rectifier.
