Carburetor Air Intake filter?

I own a (89-91) 50 hp Force and it is in perfect running condition however I have a question about my carburetor's air intake. The previous motor I owned had a pretty large air silencer over the carb's air intake that looks like it would block out any large debris from being sucked in but this Force has no cover. The air intake is completely exposed and even though, there wouldn't be any debris flying around within the encasing on the water, I think I would like to have something over the intake just in case. When I flush the motor I do have to take the cowling off because of the necessary procedure . There is lots of bugs some times and of course it is windy some times as well so I want to ask the experts if you think it is necessary to have a cover and/or filter over the air intake or is there absolutely nothing to worry about?

Nothing to worry about.

Also, it's nice to have access to the carb so you can choke out the motor, in case you have a 2 stroke runaway while you are working on it.

They were built that way.
