I recently attained a QuickSilver PARA LIFT Hydraulic Jack plate I was wondering if it would be worth it to run on my 1993 17.5 ft Tracker Magna Dual console. I am running a 90hp 1985 evinrude body with a 1995 OMC 115hp powerhead at 7000ft elevation at Navajo Lake, New Mexico.

I was wondering what the Plus and Minus would be if I installed the Jack Plate
I am planning on taking the motor off soon to have it serviced.

my top speed is 36mph (GPS)

wondering if it would help with overall performance.

Thank you

Re: To jack plate or not to Jack plate

Because the jack plate moves the engine back a few inches and gives you control of engine height it can offer some increase in WOT speed. If you have PT&T its effect is slightly increased.

What JB said. A jack plate on a 90 HP provides minimal, at best, performance enhancement.

The altitude is what is hurting you, especially with a naturarly aspirated 2-stroke.

I hope you're jetted for it?

Is there any where I can find info on Jetting?

Thank you for the feedback

Do you think it will stress the transom any? Im rated up to a 135hp

Your only getting 36 out of a 115hp?

Yeah I put it on. But check out your jetting and prop too.

What rpm you running up to?

And no I wouldn't worry about the transom if it's sound it will be fine. Poke around when you have the motor off, since you already plan on taking it off.

Another benefit with a jack plate on a full hulled boat is that often the jack plate can be raised to the top, and the engine tilted up as far as it can go. The prop can be completely out of the water for storage.
