I have a 1992 3.0 with original throttle. The trim switch "UP" stopped working. The "Down" action still works and the outdrive can still be raised by the "Trailer" button. The switch feels soft when pushed up. Unlike when pushed down. When pushed down you can feel a bit of a click in the switch itself. I would assume that a new switch is need but not sure.

Re: Trim Switch

Check the switch in the handle with a meter to find out for sure. If the switch is good, the problem is likely to be the trim limit switch on the drive has failed.

Re: Trim Switch

More likely that the trim limit circuit is the problem. Pretty easy to check. Go to the stern and locate two black wires coming through the transom plate. They go to two connectors one with a purple/white wire, the other with two blue/white wires. Unplug the black wires and with a piece of insulated wire jumper between the connectors. Try the trim switch. If it works then your trim limit switch circuit on the outdrive is the problem.
