will the controls on a 45ELPTO work on a 90ELPT

I have a 1986>>45ELPTO merc. #0A996708 that I would like to replace with 1988 90ELPT 0B312315.
the 90hp does not have controls with it so I would need to find used controls or could I use the existing controls for the 45HP motor??

The wireing where it plugs together in the motor will tell you if it will work. As long as the old control wires have the same number of pins and is of the same size chances are that it will. The shift and throtal cables should fit fine. The tilt and trim wires might need to be move also.JMO
