Which 9.9hp tiller to buy.

Any opinions on which late 90's thru early 2000's outboard to buy? I am looking at a 1999 Mercury and a 2003 Johnson. Both in great shape. Is one far superior to the other? I am not a big fan of the multifunction tiller handle on the Merc, but probably because I have not used much. I have a Starcraft, 14' aluminum boat with a 15" transom. Any other years and 9.9's better?

Are you talking 2 strokes or 4 strokes?

Check Tohatsu 9.9 D2, could pass it to 15 HP for peanuts if good priced available.

Depending on price/condition I would most likely go with the Mercury. I'm usually a Johnson/Evinrude guy but I think with those years the Mercury might be a little better motor. I think you would grow to like that Merc tiller handle.

I have both and like the Merc better, neither one is bad though. I love the tiller shift, it works great for how we fish.
