winterizing

i have a 1988 thompson with a 3.7 merc
i need to get it winterizied. how much needs to get done now. and what gets done in the
spring?
i understand about the anti-freeze, fuel stablizer and fogging the engine.
what about the other oils
how many gallons of anti-freeze is needed.

Doesn't sound like you do understand about the anti-freeze (hint: you don't need any if your system is already properly filled).

You don't need any antifreeze if your engine is filled with the correct automotive antifreeze. What you need to do NOW is get an antifreeze tester and check the coolant that is in the engine currently. Should be about 50/50 automotive antifreeze. The only other thing needed to freeze protect the engine is remove the AFT drain plug on the heat exchanger to drain the raw water. For other stuff to do, look in the how to winterize section of this thread http://forums.iboats.com/mercruiser...have-technical-information-diyers-342393.html Remember you do not have to drain the engine because it is (should be) already filled with antifreeze, you only have to drain the heat exchanger.
