Engine on 20' pontoon

About to be a first time pontoon boat owner. Picking up an 87 20' pontoon boat and wanting to know the maximum size 2 stroke engine that will work on it. Tahnks :)

That depends on the boat of course will need to know exactly what one it is because varies from brand to brand, but as a pure guess around a 70 hp max.

I had a 1988 20' and it was rated for a 75 hp.

O and lots and lots of pictures this bunch loves pictures.

O and welcome to Iboats and the very present world of pontoons, If you haven't all ready found out Pontoons and the east to maintain and use and you cant beat a pontoon for all around fun and enjoyment and the guys here will help you in any way they can. You will find some very creative people here and they will help you out from general questions to detailed instructions.

So the 225 Suzuki i have in storage may be "a bit much". LOL

Not if you do a tri toon conversion :D

Their is a vid around some place of a 107 mph toon with 3 300 merc on it

My 20' sweetwater has a data plate on the console that states max weight capacity,max number of persons and max hp. Mine is listed at 75hp. I have an 85hp on it and it does fine.

You should have a data plate, somewhere. The two Starcraft 20's we owned were both rated for 75.

We had one with a 75 Merc. 2-stroke and one with a 75 Merc. 4-stroke.

The 4-stroke weighed considerable more and you could see it when the boat was at rest. The 4-S fuel economy was twice that of the 2-S.
