Did I do something wrong??? Was winterizing the boat this afternoon and ran into an issue. After I changed the fuel filter, the starboard engine started but died within a minute. Could not get the engine restarted.

Figured it was a fuel problem so I removed the fuel filter and discovered it was only 25% full. Manually poured gas into the filter and the engine restarted without hesitation. Did not have the same problem with the port engine.

What is the mechanism at work here? Do I have a weak fuel pump or am i getting some sort of vapor lock? Should I have done something different?

Thanks,

Mike

Next time pre-fill the filter.

+1 on pre-filling the filter. that way there will be little air that has to get pumped through the system.

The port engine may have an easier time drawing from the fuel tank.

You filled the fuel system up with air, always prefill a new filter with gas.

I *think* that carburated engines are more forgiving of air in the fuel lines, whereas MPI engines are not so much.
