Howdy, BB.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Several suspects. Is your tank ventilation clogged? Is there an air leak in the fuel lines? Is your fuel pump weak?

It is normal for the bulb to go soft when the fuel pump takes over fuel delivery. Seems like your outboard is burning fuel a little faster than it is getting delivered to the carbs.

Re: mercury

It seems to be a trend today I,ve had the same issues as well as others. Due to tempature changes seems needle seats are not sealing properly llines are not sealing injectors failing The bulb gets hard for the initial prime then fails. I took my carbs off 5 times today to no avail. I even rebuilt my rebuilt fuel pump with a new set I had laying around. This is just after a rebuild of my engine and trying to check out the major engine componants, and it erked the hell out of me! I,ve ordered new gaskets and needle seats. the funny thing is i just replaced them recently. Leftover holloween demonds are abound. Try again toomarrow and see if things improve. if not. check old hoses all connections then the carb or injectors must be given attention. I hope all goes well. report your findings please thanks.

Re: mercury

If the primer bulb is in a horasontal position try placing it in a vertical and as high as able. The check baal in the bulb could be letting fuel back to the tank. If you still have the trouble, and the tank is vented as it should be, then I would start looking for a air leak in the fuel line from there. As JB stated make sure that all the fuel lines from the tank to the carbs are of the same size and not chocking the fuel flow down to the carbs. JMO

You have a vented tank and fuel lines, BB. I think you probably also have a fuel pump. Either get yourself a Service Manual or take it to someone qualified to work on it.
