Hi, I had replaced my water pump and some seals in the spring. Had no problem all summer. Recently took boat out of water for the winter and drained lower unit gear oil (blue in color). Nice and clean , no water. Filled back up with new oil(blue). Noticed green oil dripping out of the prop, mostly from chamber around the nut holding prop on. Had used oil that was green 2 years ago. What's going on? Is a prop seal bad?

Thanks, John

No idea where you are getting green from.
Gear lube is blue, and exhaust residue should be black and smell like fuel.

Blue and yellow make green. Are you boating in yellow water?

When I replaced the water pump last spring I had the whole lower unit apart. From the view with the prop off where you can see the gears (thrust and pinion?) I now remember using a grease on those gears. I tried to upload a picture I took back then of the gears, but Iboats said file was too large. Wouldn't that area normally be greased? Shouldn't the grease stay and not leak out? Is there a way I couls send you the pix direct to your email? Thanks, John

No, but the lake is green. Please see my reply to Roscoe. Thanks, John
