Hi,
I have an early 40hp Yamaha 2 cylinder motor no diea what year etc looks old.

Still runs wanted to know if can still get parts but need to know what year / model etc.

Thanks for your help in advance attached are the pictures.

In your fourth photo, see that little ID plate on the transom mount, we need that number

+1. Great motor. Those late model 40-60 hp 2-stroke Yamis are very sought after in our neck of the woods (North FL), particularly if it's a tiller drive. Well worth the effort to get and keep running.

Late model I thought this thing was old as the hills like a 1977 model ?

I guess it's all relative

Most of my motors are from the 50s-60s, so I consider anything made after the 70's "late model". I'm not sure of the exact year, but based on the look, I would guess more like mid 80s-early 90s model.

Australia.

I bought a boat last weekend with this motor attached. I didnt buy it for the motor as it looks poorly maintained. But if I can get a new coil for it which from my research the Mitsubishi coils that are on it are no longer sold ??.

Does anyone know of the replacement part for this ?

I will get it running and use it until I find a replacement motor.

European model and doesn't cross to anything sold in the states. Getting parts is going to be a hit and miss

So guys considering the condition of the motor which compression tested at 150 each nearly spot on, and the leg being rusted to the **** house. I am thinking replacement and sell the motor ?

What would it be worth, it does run an drive the boat ok but I hate worrying about it.

Few k is worth the worry easy.

If you can not take it apart to repair anything then it is only worth some of the parts.
not many people want a motor that they cannot repair easily, just like you
