Hi there this is my first time posting here, have purchased a boat and has a Johnson 70hp 1978 (70EL78C). It is all still running fine but the throttle and shift cables have rusted pretty bad. I am looking at replacing both these cables but what ones would suit my engine etc. The boat is 4.57m in length.

If anyone could help me that would be great.

Cheers

Re: Replacement Throttle and Shift Cables

Check the cables for an identifyig part number. The factory will imprint the part number and the length on the outer black sheating. You may find it about 1 foot from the end of the cable-the engine end. Most marine dealerships handle throttle/shift cables. If you have factory cables, the engine takes the older cables, called the "long life" cables. Their 6 digit part numbers start with 377XXX and come in increasing one foot lengths, starting at 6'. Once you know the correct length, see your Bombardier dealer.

Re: Replacement Throttle and Shift Cables

Thanks for the reply, I found an imprint on one of the cables but the other ones outer casing is corroded away are these cables normally identical? The number was OMC 322 4h 14ft.

Thanks again
