new water supply hose from gimbal hoseing to PS cooler.

Working 92 model (twins) with Alpha Gen II's, on this project.
Am reinstalling engines/drives now after rebuilding transom.

So I figured I would go ahead and order new hoses from the drive to the PS (power Steering) cooler.
Using the Merc part number/Mallory conversion, I got molded hoses with 1.25 flares on each end.
(32-96246A4 In the quick silver pic, there are a couple of adaptors. I figured this is the hose pieces I mention below)

However, on any late 80's, early to mid 90's water tube I've seen, The O.D. is 1".

Am I supposed to use a small piece of 1" hose on the water tube and then clamp the 1.25 over that? Seems like a hack job.
Or do I cut off the "flared end of the molded hose and install?

I emailed the manufactor and they weren't much help.

Alot of mercruser engines come from the factory with the rubber sleeve over the water tube.It does seem half @**but I've never saw one leak
