Starboard Listing Problem

About a month ago I bought a 1983 Trophy 2460 model with a 305/280. The boat lists about 4 to 5 inches to the starboard side? with no one on it. I?ve checked every compartment and there are no signs of water. I?ve even empted the fresh water tank, the fuel is in the center. There are no hull cracks or holes. I?ve been told that it?s a manufacture weight distribution flaw, I was told when these boats were made they didn?t use a CAD system for weight and balance. In short, the weight of material is greater on the starboard side vs the port side. Because of this problem the trim tabs don?t work right when underway. Does anyone have any input or background on this type of problem. I understand the only easy fix is to add lead weights to the rear port side.

Forgot to say, there's no foam within the hull (so it's not the common, water in the foam problem). All foam is deck level and above.

Hello and welcome aboard-

That seems to be a common thing with boats with a head and galley, and I bet the helm is also on the starboard side.
You could try and move the batteries to the opposite side if you have not done so already, try and do a little re engineering for weight distribution. water tank full to port side?
Or add weight to the port side, I just live with it.

I think I would check the foam for water from rain water Wouldn't take much to accumulate over 29 years.

I have been with manufacturers that did use CAD and often boats still did not float perfectly level when doing the first sea trials. We would then move everything we could to make it level. Moved batteries , generators, etc. When that didn't work sometimes lead weight was added to the opposite side for that first or second boat, then engineering redesigns fixed it for the rest of the production boats. But there are some boats out there with extra uneeded weight in them.

My boat lists an inch or two to starboard. My friend's Maxum lists more than mine.

I have head and galley to starboard. Batteries and water heater are at the port stern. The fresh water tank is in the bow, and the fuel tanks sits crosswise forward of the engines, so neither of them contributes to the imbalance. The thing that makes the most difference is the 25 gallon holding tank- it's situated hard against the starboard side. The list is more or less pronounced depending on how full it is, but the list is always there regardless.
