Have read on the forum that Merc has recently gone to sealed bearings and UJ's. I'm replacing gimbal brg and UJ's b 4 spring. Currently I have greasable gimbal brg and perma lube uj's. Some have went to greasable fittings/brgs over permalube ones and/or added grease zerks. Is one better than the other or is it just a personal preference to be able to grease at your discretion?

Many are sealed,I suppose you could take out the plug where the zerk would normally go and see if it's threaded and put a zerk in. As far as the gimble bearing, you can't grease them anymore.I think you can still get the greaseable bearing from Sierra.I prefer quicksilver parts myself.

If you'er the kind to leave the drive on until something else needs attention go with the permlube.
If you are the kind to pull your drive and check alignment and stuff why not go with lubeable? After all a shot of grease never hurt anything.
