Need some propeller advice.

Hello All,

I have a 14.5 x 21 black max 3 blade propeller and I guess it does fine. My engine wot range is 4600-5000 and most I got is 4800 and 40 mph ( however mph is wrong b/c when I took the drive off i noticed that the speed tube was not only pinched but cracked in several places. My questions are- The propellers has several chips in 2 blades, chips are the zize of a rice grains, does that reduce performance? Also, If I have to replace it I'm thinking of going with mercury 14 x 20 alpha 4, what do you guys think of this swap??

That sounds like a good plan. Dropping an inch of pitch is what's recommended when switching to a 4 blade prop in order to maintain the WOT rpm at it's current level.

Mercury's Alpha 4 is available is 16,18,and 20 pitches. It makes switching from the 3 most common sizes of 3 blade props (21,19,17) very easy. :)
