Carb Adj on1985 8hp Evinrude Outboard

Hi all,does anyone know how many turns out the low speed adj.screw is?The original one got bent somehow and I replaced it with a new one.I ask because it's most of the time a pain to start.It seems to run good too with the choke half out so maybe it needs more fuel or would the jets be getting plugged?Where can I find a manual that tells how to remove the carb?The motor says 100/1 on the lid...is that safe?How hard is it to remove the all the stuff just to get to the carb?Also by accident I started it by leaving it in gear and taking off with the main motor.Rode around for awhile,about 25mph and when I stopped the boat it was running.Could that have hurt the motor by spinning the prop too fast?Any replys greatly appreciated.:facepalm:

I don't have a manual but it normally 1 1/2 turns out from gently seated. Ebay will have an OMC service manual almost for sure. If not one will show up soon. OMC decided 100/1 was too lean and they recommend 50/1 for your engine. Your the first I've heard of "push starting" an outboard! LOL. I don't think it would hurt it but don't really know. I guess it depends on how long it turned over before it got fuel/oil. Best of luck. Rick.

Check out the top secret file in sticky. It helped me alot while adjusting the carburetors on my two old outboards.

Thanks for the info.Good to know Evinrude thought 100/1 was too lean.I'll wait now for spring to mess with it.Yea,just like push starting.I could't believe it was running,just idling away.I'll check out the sticky.Thanks again.
