Tach 'drive' data? 50hp, four cyliner, two stroke, ~1984.

I'm assuming that the tach senses engine rpm via the gray wire that is connected to the rectifier cuz it's the only electronic link that could carry that sort of data I see in the schematic, and cuz it's sent via the remote control wire harness to the control head.

If not the gray wire than how do the tach get its data?

Thanks in advance.

The grey wire is the tach wire. The pulses from the stator rotations per minute are sent to the rectifire then transfered via the grey wire to the tachometer.

Thanks! My rectifier shows a short to ground, rather than a healthy front/back ratio, so perhaps that both why I show no charge and no tach action. New rectifier orderd.
