Hey guys,

I removed my gearcase of my late 70's 55hp Evinrude a good year ago and im now putting it back together. I've replaced majority of the seals and gaskets.

This one is confusing me though, where does this grommet go? According to the schematic breakdown the part is called:

No 70: "Grommet, Shift rod, Long" (0321452)

Please refer to the picture and see if you can tell me where it goes, and if i fasten it to the shift rod with a cable tie etc?????

Thanks for your help!

Cheers,
Sam :)

Its meant to go where the shift rod exits the exhaust housing......have a look in the gap below your lower mount and will probably see the old grommet or a hole thats a perfect fit for the new one.....remove it from the shift rod and install from the underside before attempting to install the LU.....no cable ties required, a bit of liquid soap will help though.
