Mercury 8hp 2 Stroke starting problem

I despair! I've narrowed the (non) starting problem down to the carb as it starts readily if fuel is poured into plug holes. I've now removed the carb 3 times, and each time removed anything removable, cleaned and then blasted air through every available orifice. The diaphragm is definitely working as I got a facefull when I pressed the button!

My questions are:

Where exactly is the idle jet located?

How does one remove the vertical brass jet/tube thingies that sit vertically in the carb throat?

Thanks in advance.

The low speed idel jet is on the front face of the carb and in the center above the throat opening on most all newer 8hp motors. The brass tube in the throat of the carb can sometimes be removed with a screwdriver after removing the float bowl. What year and SR# is the motor?

Thanks for reply, the serial no. is 9471820 Belgian, not sure of the date though.

I thought what you descibed was the air mixture screw, which has been removed, 'cleaned' yet again, then screwed back fully, then back out 1? turns as I found it. The button that squirts fuel when the choke is engaged goes firm after a few pushes and peering up the carb throat with the throttle opened, I see no fuel squirting.
