I know this might be a dumb question but what holds the wires to the lower motor cover assy.? I've attached a guide wire to the shift wires & I have the lower unit lowered 1/4". The manual says to just lower the unit & pull the wires through. My guess is that there is a rubber grommet attached to the wires which has to be pulled back in place on re-assembly. Is this correct?

Do the wires run through a hole just under the power head base on the stbd side ?? If they do the rubber grommets are part of the shift wire assembly it self. Squirt some oil down the hole before pulling.
