Mercruiser starter

I have a Starcraft 1810 with a mercruiser 4.3 motor. One of the starter mounting bolts sheared off. The bolt is in a blind spot and not easy to get to. Does anybody know of a easy way to get the bolt threads out of the motor?

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... Pull the motor, 'n flip it up-side-down...

Then you can drill through the broken piece, 'n use an easy-out to remove it...

Thanks Bond-o. That's what I thought but didn't want to hear. The starter was installed by a marina in the 1000 islands in May' 12. Used the boat for 2 days in May, towed it home, parked it and didn't start it again until this week to winterize it. Starter was brand new out of the box and had a max of 10 hours on it. Maybe have other issues with the motor?

Does the engine turn over by hand? You ought to make sure it is not seized up or hydrolocked.

Fr the broken bolt, I've never tried it, but some here have suggested using a reverse cut drill bit with a right angle drill... perhaps the bolt will screw itself out while drilling. To me I cannot imagine getting a drill under the engine with it still in the boat, but perhaps it is worth a quick try. Otherwise, like Bond-o says, the engine needs to come out.

Ayuh,.... If yer sayin' it's seized, 'n won't turn over, it could be anything all the way to the propshaft,...

That's the only thing that Don't turn with the crankshaft...

Pull the drive to see which is stuck, the drive, or motor...

the other issues you may want to address first.remove plugs and pull drive off and then attempt to bar engine over to see if its seized.is there any rust on the plugs on the internal area of the plug?
the starter will have to be completly removed but sometimes they can just come unscrewed with minimum effort but you have to be able to remove all surrounding seating so you can look upwards.
