Question: what would cause gas to be getting into the oil ? Boat was running fine at 4500 RPM when it suddenly began to jug and lose power. Oil preasure dropped to 8 lbs. and when checking the dip stick it was 3 quarts over the fill line.

How about the Merc serial number of your engine. I don't know of any 6.2 with a mechanical fuel pump.

The 6.2 Litre doesn't have a mechanical fuel pump and is fuel injected

Not all of them ;) While most (all Merc built) 6.2s are MPI. There are many built and sold as long blocks that are Carb'd and may have mechanical pumps. It's just important to be precise.

Are you sure it is fuel and not water that caused the overfill? I cannot see how an engine without a mechanical fuel pump would add three quarts of fuel to the oil. I can however see many ways for water to enter the oil and fill it that much. And the various causes of water injestion would also cause the engine to stumble and loose power.

Re: 6.2 litre 320 hp fuel getting into oil

A fuel injected engine typically has a pressure regulator. A ruptured pressure regulator diaphram can allow a huge amount of fuel to enter the engine via the vacuum line controlling the regulator. That excess fuel causes the engine to go extremely rich and unburned fuel goes past the rings. The thinned oil is also responsible for the drop in oil pressure.
