I want to rent out my boat (34' Trawler) simply for sleeping/dining with no leaving-the-slip privledges. Im sure Im not breaking new ground on this-any problems that might come up (aside from what you might expect if you rented out a house, trailer, etc)? Thanks in advance!

If you moored at a marina, is it allowed?

This topic has been discussed ad nauseum...search the phrase "would you rent out your boat."

The collective wisdom here is that it is a fools errand. Forget it if you don't have an affinity for drama and lawsuits.

Yes, I have seen that thread. I thought I was being novel by keeping the boat moored. But I can see this is more problem then its worth.

think of this aspect: anyone who would rent a boat they can't take out over the winter is a person who can't afford a flea-bag hotel or project apartment. Not the best tenant.

It's fairly easy to pick out a rental property just by looking at the yard.

True. Although we have a second home in OR, we like to spend a weekend on the boat and just treat it as a cottage. I just thought others might like the experience. But Ive read enough negative comments to self that idea!

I dont like it when someone touches my boat if they dont have clean hands, I cant imagine what that would be like.

It drives me nuts when I see my boat getting dirtied by someone else. Rent out your house and move into your boat.

Any mortgage income tax deduction now claimed would be lost ... ;)

Tax wise it's a great idea. interest, taxes, dock space, upkeep, insurance etc + part of the original cost + improvements. But it's still a bad idea.
