prop question?

Gentlemen : today I removed my prop to be sent out for reconditioning. I noticed that the prop nut was discolored almost has a burnt look to it. I cleaned it up with some carb cleaner and a brush with no changeI am assuming that it gets hot down there where the exaust exits but can a prop nut loose temper and fail,I am new to working an a boat thanks in advance

No, it won't hurt anything. They all change color over time. :)

Ayuh,.... It's Bronze I believe, 'n discolors with age...

There shouldn't be awhole lotta Heat there, if the coolin' system is up to snuff either...
