I have just recieved a updated www.bucvalue.com retail value of my boat.

It is now down rated by at least $ 2,000 in about 30 days...Plus it lumps options in low balling price groups.
Example. All engines in 4.3L & 5.0L 190 - 230 hp are 1 selection. It then prices a V8 5.0L 220hp engine as a 190hp option & price. FANTASTIC if you are a boat dealer buying a used boat.

The web site appears to now be biased to the buyer / dealer completly...many expensive options are simply not allowed anymore. Result is a mint condition with every option as a simple boat. Somebody should make a handsome profit on all the extra cost options.

Oddly NADA price of the same boat comes out at least $ 2,000 higher.

If it is on the web.. It is still possibly, very inaccurate data to base a sale on.

It is mostly smoke (mythology) and mirrors (prejudices).

The retail value of anything is what you can get someone to pay you for it. No more, no less.

There areway to many variables to determine an accurate value. It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. When I sold mine, I started priced high and worked down till it sold. I had a few guys tell me it was only worth $$$??? based on websites... I told them thanks for the info...

In a cash transaction it what a buyer will pay. Bankers may base loan values on some magic book value. I have looked at more than a few boats and have not found anything close to those prices.

Value books are useless when it comes to boats. Because of the tremendous variations in condition, regional demand, and seasonal price swings, it is just not possible to have any accuracy with a one-size-fits-all guide the way you can for cars.

I will say one other thing. In general, most boat owners/sellers over-estimate the value of their boat on the local market. This problem is made worse by the fact that the averagamateurre seller doesn'understandnd thdifferencenc between ASKING price and SELLING price. They see boats that look similar on Craigslist and automatically assume that their boat is worth the same or (more commonly) more.

Then they enter a period of intense frustration as "lowballers" try to cheat them out of their baby. Finally, for most, reality sets in and they start getting wise to the fact that the Love Boat isn't worth what they thought it was.

You can put a lump of coal on Craigslist and ask for $1 million. That doesn't make it worth $1 million. Or one dollar for that matter.
