Hello I have a 1972 astroglass with a 50 hp mercury 500 outboard motor with the thunderbolt ign on it . Ok so I just bought the boat it sat for 10 years I had to replace the floor in it but it did start and run with good gas and a hot battery it started and ran but the wiring was bad from the plug on the motor up to sel. Rec. ect.... So I replaced them . Also had to do the same thing in the control box with the ign switch. Now its not getting any fire to run. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should try next I need some help bad.
Thanks in advance,
Bruce

If the rectifier is backwards, it will ground out the ignition system.

check to see if there is an overboard lan cable kill switch on the control box If the lanyard came off it will kill the ignition. You can unplug the harness from the boat and see if you have spark then
