Which Manual

I just switched over from kayaks to power boats. I picked up a 1997 Aquasport Striper 165 with a 1997 Johnson 50hp SPL on it. It didn't come with any service manual for the motor and I am confused on which one to order. I see ones that say
1997 EVINRUDE JOHNSON 50HP EFI 2-STROKE OUTBOARD REPAIR MANUAL but is that the same service manual I would need for the 1997 Johnson 50 SPL?
I'm new to outboards and want to make sure that I order the correct manual in case I do need to service something down the road. Thanks

Re: Which Manual

There were two and three cylinder 50hp versions.....each has a seperate manual.....im thinking yours being an SPL may be twin? What is the model number?

Re: Which Manual

Welcome to iboats.

There is a tag on the motor mount that will give you a model number, if it is missing there will be a welch plug somewhere on the engine itself under the cowl with the same info, it is about the size of a nickel.

It is well worth the money to get an OEM OMC manual for that, it covers your engine only, if it is in the manual it is for your engine, Clymers and Seloc cover a huge span of years and models and are next to worth less so stay away from them.

Once you find what you need they can be purchased here at iboats or poke around on Ebay and you can usually find one a bit cheaper.

Also stay away from the manuals on CD, even the factory manuals on CD are a real pain.
