Hi Guys,

I have a 88' 2120 robalo. Outfitted with twin 89 Suzuki dt115. We just went through the motors and the boat this summer to get it back in working shape after a few years. We replaced water pumps, thermostats, cleaned all carbs, and changed all plugs. As we also changed the fuel filters and drained the fuel tank, as well as new batteries. But here is to the problem. Boat worked great for a month and a half. I was taking it out about 2-3 times a week. The other day i was out on the boat and the starboard motor stopped spraying out of the tell tale. I received a beep on my overheat warning and shut it down. I restarted the engine several times after trying several solutions to learn that it was a high rev problem. The boat motored along well at 2krpm but as you planed out at 3500rpm the tell tale would again and again start to stutter out of the tell tale. I"m positive at this point it is a high speed overheat and i"m looking for some suggestions as to what could cause that to happen. Ive blown air back through the tell tale as well as ran the earmuffs through for about 20 minutes. Still no luck. I have done some research and there are a few things that i have read that i"m unsure about. There is a u shaped exhaust rubber in the leg that was worn when we did the maintenance. Ive also read about a possible water sensor issue, or maybe a head gasket leak. possibly even a chance i sucked something up and it damaged my new impeller. But i have not taken the boat out in any kind of low areas or beaching.

There is absolutely no way to truly tell you what is wrong from here....if it was my motor I would pull the lower unit(easy) and check the
impeller and it's housing/wear plate/o-rings FIRST....let us know from there.

The exhaust gaskets that the pickup tube go through will rot and leak air, anything can be wrong. You got to pull it to take a look.
