Good Morning, New boater from Moore Ok. I have a 1994 OMC with
4.3 vortec Mdl # 432ACPMDA serial # T01268666
Cobra Outdrive Mdl # 3868076 serial # T0781530

To make a long story short, rookie boater hit a submerged sandbar and broke some things.
After talking to two local repair shops, I decided to get to personally acquainted with my boat.

I have some questions that I am sure have been answered but I could not find them.

1. What are the best detailed service manuals for this Motor and Outdrive?

2. Where is the best place to order parts?

3. Since I am replacing the engine coupler and this is a new boat to me, should I go ahead and replace the gimbal bearing, u-joints and boots also?

Thanks for your time and your help

Re: Best Manual, Best place to order parts, Advice on installing new Engine coupler,

Welcome aboard Jeremy:

1. What are the best detailed service manuals for this Motor and Outdrive?
"Factory manual is the best, then the Seloc. Clymer if you're desperate." - Howard Sterndrive

2. Where is the best place to order parts?
Start HERE. iBoats will have quite a bit too.

3. Since I am replacing the engine coupler and this is a new boat to me, should I go ahead and replace the gimbal bearing, u-joints and boots also?
Are you getting any leaking? Any clue as to how long it's been since they've been changed? I'm not sure what the regular schedule is for changing them (someone else will chime in), but it never hurts to do them if you're already taking it all apart.

Re: Best Manual, Best place to order parts, Advice on installing new Engine coupler,

Bellows should be replaced if you don't know the age. If the gimbal bearing is smooth and well lubed (Not rusty) no reason to replace it. Same with the ujoints. You can probably just grease them through the zirks (if they have them) and be good. Bellows are a preventive maintenance thing like the impeller. Steel bearings are not. You don't just replace all the bearings in your outdrive because you don't know how old they are.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... What, got broken, other than the coupler,..??

Is the hull leakin',..??

Bein' a '94, if the motor is original, it's Vortec in name only,... Vortec heads were intro'ed in '96...

'n, while the motor is out, Closely inspect the transom for Rotten Wood,...

Not knowin' it's care since '94, it's a candidate for it...

Re: Best Manual, Best place to order parts, Advice on installing new Engine coupler,

I'm a fan of wholesalemarine.com, lightening fast shipping (which is good if you want to be on the water by the weekend lol)...
