Is it possible to bolt on a OEM power trim unit to the factory manual trim stern bracket ? I'm looking at a used unit off Ebay but not sure how much needs to be modified to install it.

Thanks !

The two stern brackets for an 88 should accept the standard hydraulic trim system commonly found on all the other OMC engines. You'll want to pay attention to the fact that OMC had two types of trim systems over the years. The later version (would have been available for your engine when new) utilizes a 2-wire trim motor. In addition to the hydraulic unit itself, you will need the trim unit electrical box that mounts under the cowling and a trim switch for the control box handle. If you happend to purchase a hydraulic unit which uses the older 3-wire trim motor, the above mentioned electrical box is different and mounts in a different location. The different electrical components are not interchangeable between systems (excpet the trim swtich).
