Im new to boat ownership and I just bought a 50 HP Mercury camp motor from I Boats. This motor does not have a prop and I have no idea where to start. The motor is going on a 24 ft party barge that weighs about 2000 lbs ( I think). Any ideas on where to start would be greatly appreciated.

The boat had an old 90 hp mariner on it and my father wanted to use the prop from it but I'm unsure if this is a good idea.

Unless it's a Bigfoot model, it won't use the same prop as the 90 anyway. The gear cases are a different size.

What year is the motor?

I've been doing some looking and thought about a 12.25 dia and 9 pitch does that sound anywhere close?

That sounds like a good one to start with. A 9" pitch should put your rpm's in the correct range.
