I am new to the forum and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
I have a 1996 130 HP Johnson with a V-6 style lower unit (15 spline).
While running 4500-5000 RPM on the bay (for a while), the motor acted as if it had just "popped" out of gear.
It was not possible to start it and get it to provide any torque to the prop. I changed the prop to eliminate the chance of a spun prop - but that was no help.
After being towed, I took the boat home and cleaned it up. While flushing the motor, I tried both forward and reverse - and they seemed to work.
Additionally, I have some "old gas" issues with the idle - so the engine does not want to idle long enough to do much troubleshooting. Linkages seem to be good. I have seen some other posts, and will try disconnecting the linkage to manually place it in gear, but the fact that it popped out when under power has me confused.
Any suggestions
