A few weeks ago I bought an '89 Bayliner with a 2.3 OMC. I wasn't really sure what to look for so I took a buddy.
He said all the major important stuff was in good shape. Bellows were new, trim goes up and down with no leaks,Motor was spotless and oil was clean. About the only thing it needed was some interior work.
The kid tells me the original owner worked at a marina and changed the outdrive to the 3.0L outdrive and replaced the bellows with the exhaust thru kind.We ran it on the muffs and no problems.
So i bring it home and take it to the lake and within minutes its blowing milky oil all over from the breather hose on the oil cap.So I thought maybe it was condesation in the oil from the boat sitting awhile. I change the oil,ran it for quite awhile on the muffs and the oil stayed clean. take it back to the lake and within minutes it blowing milky oil again.
I just got it in the garage and going to start draining it tomorrow to start checking for a cracked block.
I guess my question is should I look for anything else,or does anyone know if something else would cause it to do that?
The boat runs great, idles fine and goes across the water fine.
Im just unsure of the 3.0L outdrive and exhaust bellows, is that a common swap?
Ive done lots of reading on here and going to try working thru everything starting with pressure testing the block.
Id aprreciate any help, even if its just links to any info.
This is such a great site!!

Howdy and Welcome aboard!

Well, you possibly have an engine with a cracked block.

You're in 'Cold Country" making water in the oil almost always the result of freeze damage.

You need to do as you indicate. pressure check the block. It should hold 15psi easily and indefinitely.

If it doesn't, you'll need to start looking for another engine/short block etc.

Sorry about that.
