I purchased a rebuild kit for my fuel pump because it was leaking fuel. Followed the instructions as written with the kit, put it on the motor and everything seemed to work fine. There seems to be more smoke than usual coming out of the exhaust. The smoke also seemed whiter. Could it be possible that a new fuel pump would make the motor run leaner or did I make an error in the reassembly process.

Possible error in reassembly. If any of the fuel/oil mixture gets sucked into the pulse line, it can cause that cyl to smoke more.
