I have a 1986 Yamaha 150 hp . Engine lost power . I checked plugs and found number one cyl not firing. switched coils and number one still not firing. Thats about all I know to do. could it be switch box or stator and if so how can I test. I did replace plugs but still missfiring on number one only. Any help with this will be greatly apreciated.

The stator just makes AC voltage to run the ignition and being the other cylinders are firing, it's good. Go for the CDI box.

pick up a Yamaha service manual and follow the test procedures for charge and pulsar coils and the out put of CDI to make sure of where the problem is before replacing parts
