Just acquired this Boat in a real estate transaction. Would like to identify it.

I got this boat as part of a real estate transaction. I'd like to fix it up and make it seaworthy. I could not find any names or labels on the sailboat other than the stamped logo initials on the stern. I would ask for help in identifying the brand and model and if anyone could direct me to a place that might offer replacement parts or restoration advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Craig in Indiana

Does not look like it takes a motor so what I am about to say may not apply. It looks more like a sailboat.

If you need a motor check your state laws; a title may be required to hang a motor on it.

It's definitely a sailboat. I have the mast and rudder and keel. I'd just like to find out the brand so I can do more research on what components should be with the boat. Craig

I'm thinking it might be a laser (google it) - A very popular one design class. A sail will run you $500 - $600. (and it is a dagger board, not a keel)

Have you unfurl the sail yet? - There may be a logo or other i.d. on it that could help you identify it... For examples, hobie sails have the hobie logo and are each numbered. Most sunfish sails, have the little panfish logo on them.

That is definitely a laser. Currently the most popular racing dinghy and has been for over 30 years. Parts are silly expensive if you want "class legal" but knock offs are available for about 1/2 price, which is still expensive but you can get anything you need for it. Google laser sailboat parts and you will come up with alot, I don't know the policy of providing links to other boat part distributors here on iboats but there is a company in annapolis with a complete inventory of parts on their website for this boat. The boats are less competitive with age and old hulls have little value other than knocking around for fun. They are not the most forgiving boat to learn to sail but preform well and would make you an excellent sailor.

I thought all Lasers had a small "lip" right at the end of the "cockpit area"? There were tons of Canadian boat builders in the 70's and 80s and several of them built a boat similar to this from Bruce Kirby's design. It might help to confirm the builder by posting a picture of it rigged: meaning-mast stepped, rudder hung, keel in place, etc. If it's a Laser, it should have a build stamp on the transom

Have not seen the sail yet but will search the garage next week. Pretty sure I saw some "nautical" bags. Thanks for the tip. Looking forward to a new adventure.

Thanks for the tips. I want to get it cleaned up and ready to launch in the spring. I'll check for extras around the garage.

Good for you and that's a perfect boat to learn the "ropes" (pardon the pun). Sailing is a TON of fun and don't let anyone discourage you because it's not as hard as it's made out to be. Tons of information on the interwebs, so read, watch videos but get that little sucker wet. There is nothing more relaxing that the wind filling the sails and no other sounds but the water lapping against the hull and nature surrounding you.
