I took my 1964 Brunswick runnabout out today. Took off like a rocket then revved up and wouldn't go,so I thought I spun the hub in prop. Upon trying to put another prop on resized shaft turned while tightening nut.put back in water rubbing noise from lower unit and same thing. Any ideas?

When you put it in gear while on land, not running, does the prop lock in one direction and ratchet in the other ? If it is not locking ,you may have a bad gear, any metal shavings in the lower unit oil?

Yes it locks in one direction, ratchets in the other. Going to score prop and hub and see if I spun out the hub. I put a fin on to help plane out

If it "takes off like a rocket" then it likely does NOT need a fin...

You're right chinewalker. Who knew. Two 48 year old props. They both spun on hub. I think the fin put to much pressure on those old things. I'm just a sucker for classics and originality. Going to prop shop and having new hubs put in. Running14x15 hope that is good.
