Hi all, new to the boating world, have just ordered "Mercruiser Stern Drives 2001-08 Repair Manual" Seloc Publications, but the weather her is really cooling off fast.
What I have is 2006 Bayliner with 3.0 L Alpha one Gen II outdrive
I have milky gear oil ( brown like coffee 1 sugar double cream
) in the out drive. Appears that the previous owner used premium ( black oil) instead of high performance ( green oil) would this make a difference since the power is 135 horse?
The oil in the resevoir is just fine dark brown / black.
I did locate fishing line around the shaft when i took off the prop. If the leak was caused by this would i just replace the prop seal or would i need to replace further seals? I Read about this on a thread.
If I am required to pull the outdrive off and pressure test it will it harm the unit to sit for long period with out gear oil? ( I wouldn't think so but read somewhere that it shouldn't sit for long with out being lubed)
Also when I pulled the plug and drained the bilge I located a small threaded rod ( greasy / oily) laying on the ground under the drain. Rod is 1.5" long and the diameter of a q-tip end. Any ideas where this belongs?
Also; was about to do the collant flush and didn't locate pet cocks but instead two blue hoses comming up the side of the engine to a handle where it says exhaust manifold and something else. Was just going to flush the system with rv / boat pink antifreeze through the muffs to remove all the water and leave the pink in. Is this fine or are these blue hoses to be used for winterizing and if so what is the proceedure.
