will a weak fuel pump make my 60 hp johnson hard to start after it has warmed up, then allowed to sit a while. it is a 91 j60tleib. used to be a vro but i removed all that and put on regular pulse pump. the pump was an old used1 from a 83 140. cold starts are ok but when i run down lake to fish awhile then try to restart it will only start if i do the fast idle and primer. wot is great so maybe pumps not the problem. carbs have been rebuilt, all new fuel lines and primer and fuel filters. compression 110110 108. idles a little off and wants to die at low speed

Re: fuel pump

If it is a 3-hose pump, remove the pulse hose. If a two-hose pump, remove it from the crankcase, hoses attached. Now sueeze the primer bulb and see if gas squirts out the removed hose or back side of the pump. If it does, the diaphragm is shot and that will cause flooding/bad idle/hard start. If gas does not squirt out, look for somewhere else for your problem.
